GUS — Growth, Unity & Success, Inc. is a registered 501(c)(3) public charity in Jamaica, Queens. This page explains what happens to your information when you visit guswithus.org or give to us. If you have a question about any of it, email info@guswithus.org.
The short version. We count visits so we can tell funders how many people this site helps. We use Google Analytics to do it, with advertising features switched off. We never record what you type into the Resource Center search box, and we never record which crisis line you called. There are no forms on this site. When you donate, Zeffy or PayPal handles it, and we receive your name, email, and gift amount so we can send a receipt and thank you.
What this website collects
There is no contact form and no newsletter signup on this website. We do use Google Analytics, which sets a cookie and tells us how many people visited, roughly which part of the world they came from, and which pages they opened. It does not tell us your name and we cannot use it to identify you.
We also count three actions, so we can show funders that this site does something real:
- Somebody clicked through to apply for a programme
- Somebody tapped a phone number
- Somebody went to our donation page
Three things we deliberately do not record. We never send Google anything you type into the Resource Center search box. We never send the name of a crisis, safety, or immigration resource — if you call the domestic violence hotline or open an immigration legal service, it is counted only as “crisis resource”, with no record of which one. And we have turned off Google Signals and advertising personalisation, so none of this is used to build an advertising profile of you or to follow you around the internet. We serve young people from age 8, and we are not willing to feed their browsing to an ad network.
The email and phone links open your own email app or dialler. We count that a phone link was tapped. We do not know which number you then dialled or what was said.
If you are worried about someone checking this device. The bigger risk is your own browser history, not our analytics — we cannot be seen by anyone else, but your history can. The Resource Center has a Quick exit button, and pressing Esc does the same thing. To leave no trace at all, open the site in a private or incognito window.
When you donate
We fundraise through Zeffy, which appears as a form on our donation page, and we offer PayPal as an alternative. You enter your details on their systems, not ours. Card numbers never reach GUS and we could not see them if we tried.
From Zeffy and PayPal we receive your name, email address, gift amount, and date. We use those to send your tax receipt, thank you properly, and keep the financial records a charity is required to keep.
Other companies involved when you visit
| Who | Why | What they can see |
|---|---|---|
| GitHub Pages | Hosts this website | Standard server records, including your IP address |
| Google Fonts | Loads the typefaces | Your IP address when fonts load |
| Google Analytics | Counts visits so we can report our reach | Pages you opened, approximate location, and a cookie. Advertising features are switched off. |
| Zeffy | The donation form on our donate page | Whatever you enter into that form |
| PayPal | Alternative way to give | Whatever you enter on PayPal's own pages |
Our Instagram, TikTok, X, and Facebook links take you onto those platforms, where their privacy policies apply and ours stops.
What we never do
- We do not sell, rent, trade, or swap donor lists. Not with other charities, not with anyone.
- We do not add you to a mailing list because you gave once.
- We do not run advertising trackers, remarketing, or ad profiling on this site. Our analytics has those features switched off.
- We do not record what you search for in the Resource Center, or which crisis line you reach for.
- We do not share your information except where the law requires it.
Young people in our programs
GUS serves young people ages 8 to 24. None of that enrolment happens through this website. Students reach our programs through their schools, counsellors, and community partners, and information about a young person is handled offline with the adults responsible for them.
We do not knowingly collect identifying information from a child through guswithus.org. The analytics described above counts pages, not people, and we have switched off the advertising features that would otherwise let a child’s browsing be used for ad targeting.
How long we keep donor records
As long as charity record-keeping and tax rules require, and no longer than useful after that.
Your choices
You can opt out of Google Analytics entirely on every website you visit by installing Google’s opt-out browser add-on. Turning on “Do Not Track” or using a private window also limits what is recorded.
Email info@guswithus.org to ask what we hold about you, correct it, stop hearing from us, or have your details deleted. Tell us what you want in plain words and we will do it. There is no form and no waiting period.
Changes to this page
If we ever start collecting something, this page will say so before we do, and the date at the top will change.
